Faces of To Bear the Red
Every kingdom is shaped by the people who endure it. Meet the cast of Book One.
Protagonist
Arien
Overview
Arien is a sixteen-year-old wheelwright’s apprentice from Valenstone, a small market town in the north of Edrion. Curious almost to a fault, he has a habit of noticing the details others overlook and asking the questions most people would leave alone. His perceptive nature and tendency to speak his mind can get him into trouble, much to the frustration of his Ma and Da, but beneath that curiosity is a thoughtful and determined young man who rarely gives up once he has decided something matters.
Despite dreaming of something far beyond the life he knows, Arien remains humble, loyal and deeply attached to the people around him. He can be outspoken, sometimes asking one question too many, but he is also reliable when others need him and far more thoughtful than his restless curiosity first suggests. Since the age of eight, he has dreamed of becoming a Warden and one day bearing the red cloak, not simply for the stories, but for the chance to do the work that comes with it.
